Psychiatric Evaluation & Medication Management
At The Weichman Clinic, our philosophy is to use medication as a secondary treatment. Many families would prefer to start with therapy before potentially adding medication to the treatment regimen, and we agree 100%.
If your child is being medicated, our psychiatrists encourage that your child continue to work with a therapist, because our goal is to improve your child's condition enough over time so that they will eventually be weaned off medication.
In most cases, our team uses medication as a cast, not a crutch. Meaning medication is temporarily used to help stabilize and help heal your child in the short term, but is not intended for long-term use. Unless medicating for an executive functioning diagnosis, such as ADHD, the majority of our clients are on medication for an average of 4-8 months before we begin the taper-off process.
